Send USDT on Tron without TRX
You hold USDT on Tron but no TRX, and your wallet refuses to send. You can move it without buying TRX first, from your existing address and without a new wallet.
Why your wallet refuses
A USDT transfer on Tron needs energy. Without energy, the network burns TRX instead: about 6.5 TRX when the recipient already holds USDT, and about 13 TRX when the recipient holds none. With 0 TRX, the transfer simply fails. A brand-new address must also be activated before it can send anything.
Your options
- Have a little TRX sent to your address, about 15 TRX to be safe. If you can do this, sending it yourself is usually about as cheap as using us.
- Withdraw TRX from an exchange to that address, if you have an account there.
- Use gasrescue when neither is practical, for example when the wallet is all you have.
- Some gasless services need a separate new wallet. gasrescue works with the address your USDT is already on.
How to send it with gasrescue
- Open gasrescue and connect TronLink. Tron is selected for you, and the token list shows your USDT.
- Enter the amount, at least $10, or press Max to send everything, and the recipient. The quote lists the network fee, the service fee and what the recipient gets.
- Sign twice in TronLink: first the fee, then the amount for the recipient. Your wallet shows both in full.
- We rent the energy and, if needed, activate your address and add a little TRX. Then we send the fee first and the transfer second.
What it costs
The service fee is 0.5% of the amount, at least $0.25 and at most $2.00. Both fees are deducted from the amount you send, and the quote shows the exact figures before you sign. Expect about $1.75 to $3.25 in total per transfer. It costs more than on other chains because a USDT transfer on Tron uses so much energy. The minimum on Tron is $10.
What you sign
You sign two normal USDT transfers from your own address, one for the fee and one for the recipient. TronLink shows the address and the amount of both. Tron has no signed transfer for USDT, so these are two transactions, not one: the fee goes first. If the transfer to the recipient is then refused, the fee is gone but the amount stays in your wallet. Please contact us in that case. Do not use the wallet until the transfer is done: if the USDT or the rented energy goes elsewhere in between, the transfer stops and the wallet gets blocked.
Common questions
Do I need a new wallet?
No. The USDT is sent from the address it is already on. You only need TronLink with that address in it.
My address was never used. Does that work?
Yes. If it is not activated yet, we activate it and the cost is part of the network fee in the quote.
Does this work for USDC or other tokens on Tron?
No. On Tron gasrescue sends USDT only.
Can I swap USDT into TRX here?
No. Swaps are not available on Tron, because they would need an extra approval and even more energy. gasrescue can send your USDT to a wallet or exchange where you can swap it.
Before you start
Transfers are final, so check the recipient address carefully. Only sign on gasrescue.io. gasrescue is in early access and independent of every chain and wallet named here, so please start with a small amount.
