Tron USDT transfer fails: out of energy, bandwidth or TRX
You want to send USDT on Tron, but the wallet warns about energy or bandwidth, or the transfer fails and burns what little TRX you had.
What the wallet says
Depending on the wallet and its version, messages like these (TronLink and other Tron wallets):
OUT_OF_ENERGYInsufficient energyInsufficient bandwidthAccount resource insufficientbalance is not sufficient
Why it happens
USDT on Tron is a smart contract, and every call to it needs energy. Without staked or rented energy, the network burns TRX instead: about 6.5 TRX when the recipient already holds USDT, about 13 TRX when it holds none. The transaction size needs bandwidth on top. An address with 0 TRX can do neither, and a brand-new address must be activated before it can send at all.
How to fix it
- Have about 15 TRX sent to the address. Then the wallet can pay the energy itself.
- Send the USDT with gasrescue without any TRX: you sign two transfers from your own address, we rent the energy, activate the address if needed and send them. From $10, the cost is shown before you sign.
Step by step, by chain
Common questions
Do I need a new wallet for this?
No. gasrescue sends from the address your USDT is already on.
Why does the second transfer of the day cost more than the first?
Every activated address gets free bandwidth once a day, enough for about one USDT transfer. Energy has no free allowance; it is always staked, rented or paid in burned TRX.
Can gasrescue swap USDT into TRX?
Not on Tron: a swap there needs an approval and much more energy. gasrescue can send the USDT to an exchange or wallet where you can swap it.
Before you start
Blockchain transfers are final, so check the recipient carefully. Only sign on gasrescue.io, never share your seed phrase, and start with a small amount. gasrescue is in early access and independent of every wallet and chain named here.
