Not enough POL for network fee? Send your USDC or USDT anyway

Your USDC or USDT is on Polygon, and the wallet says there is not enough POL for the network fee. A Polygon transfer costs less than a cent, but with exactly 0 POL even that is too much.

What the wallet says

Depending on the wallet and its version, messages like these (Phantom, MetaMask, Trust Wallet and other wallets on Polygon):

Why it happens

Polygon charges gas in POL, the coin that was called MATIC until 2024. It has to be POL on Polygon itself: ETH, or POL on Ethereum or on an exchange, does not count. USDC and USDT cannot pay the fee in a normal transfer. It happens most often after a withdrawal from an exchange to a new wallet, because exchanges send only the token you withdraw.

How to fix it

  1. Withdraw a little POL from an exchange directly to Polygon. One POL covers many transfers.
  2. Send the USDC or USDT anyway with gasrescue: you sign in your wallet, we pay the gas, and the fee comes out of the amount.
  3. Or swap a few dollars into POL with gasrescue, so the wallet pays its own fees from then on.

Common questions

Is POL the same as MATIC?

Yes. MATIC was renamed POL in 2024. A wallet that still says MATIC means the same coin.

How much POL do I need?

Very little: a USDC transfer on Polygon usually costs well under a cent, so one POL lasts for many transfers.

Which tokens can gasrescue send on Polygon?

Native USDC, USDT0 (USDT on Polygon) and the older bridged USDC.e.

Before you start

Blockchain transfers are final, so check the recipient carefully. Only sign on gasrescue.io, never share your seed phrase, and start with a small amount. gasrescue is in early access and independent of every wallet and chain named here.
