USDC stuck in Phantom? Not enough SOL, ETH or POL for the fee
Your USDC shows in Phantom, but it will not send. Phantom needs the network coin for the fee: SOL on Solana, ETH on Ethereum and Base, POL on Polygon.
What the wallet says
Depending on the wallet and its version, messages like these (Phantom on Solana, Ethereum, Base and Polygon):
Not enough SOL for network feeNot enough SOLNot enough POL for network feeNot enough ETH for network feeInsufficient funds for fee
Why it happens
Phantom shows all your balances together, but each network charges its fee in its own coin, on that network. SOL does not pay for USDC on Base, and ETH on Base does not pay for Polygon. On Solana a transfer to someone who never held that token also needs a small one-time deposit of about 0.002 SOL.
How to fix it
- Look at the network badge on the USDC in Phantom: Solana, Ethereum, Base or Polygon.
- Get a little of that network's coin into Phantom, if you can.
- Or use gasrescue inside Phantom: open gasrescue.io in Phantom's browser, connect and sign. We pay the fee, and the cost comes out of the USDC. You can also swap a few dollars into SOL, ETH or POL, so Phantom works on its own again.
Step by step
- Send USDC or USDT on Solana without SOL
- Send USDC on Base without ETH
- Send USDC on Ethereum without ETH
- Send USDC or USDT on Polygon without POL
- Swap USDC or USDT for gas without gas
Common questions
Does it work in the Phantom app on my phone?
Yes. On gasrescue.io choose Phantom under "Open this page in your wallet app", or open gasrescue.io in the browser built into Phantom.
Can I get SOL without having any SOL?
Yes. Swap a few dollars of USDC or USDT into SOL with gasrescue. The SOL lands in your Phantom wallet.
Phantom says my USDC is on Polygon. Is that a problem?
No, only the fee coin is missing. You need POL on Polygon, or you send or swap the USDC with gasrescue.
Before you start
Blockchain transfers are final, so check the recipient carefully. Only sign on gasrescue.io, never share your seed phrase, and start with a small amount. gasrescue is in early access and independent of every wallet and chain named here.
